Book Project — Hatchet
In early February, Mimi’s class was reading the book “Hatchet” by Gary Paulson. The main character, Brian, builds a shelter in the wood. Mimi got home with an assignment from Mrs. Patterson to make a physical model of the shelter. As they visualize it from the reading she does, she needs to create the shelter in a shoe box, using natural materials such as sticks, twigs, rocks and dirt. Other materials like legos, bark, paint, branches, leaves, clay, etc can also be used. They need to give a brief description to present to the class of their design idea.
Luckily, daddy came home in time to help with the project. Mimi is a big fan of HGTV and I think she got her design gene from her daddy….
These two were having a great time with the project.
Here is the finished project. It may look pretty rusty but it came with Mimi’s design. The blue shades represented the river and the shelter was built with all natural materials. It looked rusty becuase it was how it looked in the book — soon to be demolished by force.
