Mimi’s Public Presentation Project — Making Lemonade
One of Mimi’s classroom project is to create a small public speech on a topic of their own choice. Mimi wanted to talk about things that she knows. We brainstormed different topics, from making dumpling, cake, to gymnastic. Nothing seemed right. Finally, Mimi decided she wanted to talk about something simple, yet she could make a demonstration on the spot — how to make lemonade.
She worked on an outline first — created an introduction, researched online for a recipe, wrote down detail steps, and a wrap up paragraph. For someone who is looking for nothing but perfection, she planned everything to it’s finest details.
She had her speech written up. She practiced her steps. She prepared for her tools and she also rehearsed herself.
She wanted to make a gallon of lemonad for her classmates to taste.
She did her presentation on Monday (5/23/11). All children graded the presenter. When mommy asked how her presentation went, mimi said she wasn’t graded well. Her classmates gave her quite a few suggestions (from eye contacts, demonstration, etc). I guess it was a pretty tough crowd. Still, I hope Mimi had a good time with the project.
