Memorial Weekend NYC Tour

A few weeks ago, we took the long weekend to make a trip to the city.  We stayed in Hyatt Hotel by Grand Central Station.  The location is wonderful!!  Daddy used his point for us to stay there for free.  But parking along for one day cost more than $70…..

We didn’t have any big plan for our trip.  Mommy got last minute tickets for Mimi’s favorite, Mamma Mia.  This is her second time to watch the show but was the first time with daddy.

We didn’t leave Ithaca until after Mimi’s swimming lesson.  Therefore, we got to the hotel for the time of check-in.

We stayed in the room with a king size bed.  The room was recently remodeled.  It was pretty comfortable but the size is what you will expect in a city like Manhattan.

We were taking a walk around the neighborhood before heading to dinner.  We happened to be in the street bazzar next to the hotel.  The whole street was close for the event.  You see street vendors for all different ethnic food (mostly middle eastern).  But we already made our mind where to go for dinner.  So we waited.

This is the front entrance of the hotel.  When you arrived, they immediatly ask to valet park your car for you.  This is important since there is no room for short-term parking.

We went to the Korean BBQ restaurant we frequented last time.  I guess when you have an expectation, it’s a set up for disappointment.  Mimi and I were very impressed from our last trip.  But this time……….  guess it’s ok.

This is something new that we didn’t try last time.  This was their complimentary korean rice cake.  The sauce was pretty good.

They also offered sample “egg tofu” as their appetizer.  It was pretty yummy as well.

Their service was pretty slow this time.  And they don’t re-fill their side dishes as generously as they did last time.

Guess someone was hungry.

After dinner, we found a new yogurt place next door.  You can make your own yogart with the flavor and topping of your choice.  It has fresh fruit, which caught Mimi’s attention immediately.  This is pretty pricy because they charge by weight (not pound, but ounce).

I think Mimi’s serving cost close to $10.00.

And this was mommy’s.

We took the subway back to Time Square to be ready for our show.

Our girl is old enough to take care of the transaction on her own.

Did we watch Lion King?  No, but it’s coming to Syracuse in a few months.  We will plan to see that soon.

Come back to our old favorite spot — the Time Square.

Another mission of the trip is to shop for Mimi’s graduation dress.  She wants to wear something special for her graduation ceremony.  She even asked to see if she can put some makeup for the day. Of course, the answer is NO…..

After the show, we didn’t get back to the hotel until after 11pm.  Even that was a long day, Mimi was trying to work on her school project, the sculpture…..

Not much progress was made that night so she had some late night snacks…

Next day, we drop by the soft tofu pot restaurant we visited with Ania’s family.  That’s what you called a good Korean tofu pot.
