What makes a good teacher???

This is one of the peel writing evaluation that Mimi did last October.  Mimi picked this subject and ran with her story.  I want to share her writing here.  Since there is no editing, you probably will see a few errors.

As I walk into preschool, I saw my teacher, a good-looking average woman.  She was greeting unfamiliar, fidgeting, concerned preschoolers.  I went through that same scenario six times!!!!  Sure, yeah, greeting someone in a friendly way is nice, but that doesn’t determine if you are a good teacher, does it?

A good teacher listens, not only to herself or to the principal, but also to her students.  They also take ideas into consideration.  They don’t always think there the best, but they are open to whatever idea comes.  They don’t interrupt either.  They wait until the person who’s speaking to finish, and then expresses their opinion.  They should be willing to learn from kids.  They shouldn’t be afraid to make a mistake, because hey nobody’s perfect!

Another quality a good teacher should have is humor.  Every teacher has their own sense of humor but they should be able to control it too.  They don’ tmkae “unimporant” things to seriously, and they like to laugh and make jokes.

The last quality a good teacher has, is they should be able to understand kids.  They have to know to respect you and your privacy.  They should help people who need help with problems.  Or if someone doesn’t understand something or if someone has a problem at home that they want to talk about privately, they will talk one on one.

As I look back to my first day of preschool, I remember the end of the day, when she alwasy let us fool around on the playground.  She always had us leave the classroom feeling good about ourselves when we left.  That’s exactly how I felt on the last day of school.
