Mimi’s Homework — Inference and Observation
This is Mimi’s science homework. They are learning on how to establish inferences from observations. Her assignment is to cut off photos from megazines. She needs to establish observations and draw inferences base on her 5 observations.
Mimi started her homework on her own. Mommy gave her the guideline (neat handwriting, good spelling, complete setences, etc).
The following was her original works. Mimi did a pretty good job doing her obserbvation and make inferences about it.
After mommy’s suggestion, she revised her work and did the following. I can see that she is very careful with her observation. For example, she will say “there is a man pouring liquid into a cup” instead of “pouring wine”.
Mimi and mommy had an interesting discussion about the one below. Mommy said “Look, the guy holding all the luggages was heading towards the plane”.
Mimi stopped me and said “mom, he is ‘facing’ the airplane, not ‘heading towards’ the airplane”. I realize there really is a diffrence between the two. If you are only facing the airplane, it doesn’t imply action — heading towards the airplane. I am really impressed with the way Mimi slice this to the level of details.
This is her homwork assignment sheet. The homework might seem easy. However, the learning really takes place when the children start applying the skills they learn to the practice. It requires careful deliberations and processing on their part.
It took Mimi all Friday night to complete this homework. Good job!!
