Mimi’s Making a Cake

Mimi recently completed her cooking homework.  Mommy thought that she could introduce her to something more sophisticated, like baking.

Mommy used to bake the whole cake from scratch (not from the box) for a special occasion.  I still keep all the tools so it will be great for Mimi to experience that.

To make a cake from scratch, you will need to be very careful with measurement.  Precision is key to success.

Mimi was carefully measuring flour.

The next step is to sift the flour.  This important for cake so that the texture will be fluffy.

Then, she needed to crack 7 egg yorks and 10 egg whites.  It’s important that you can’t have anything mixed into the egg white (no water, no egg york, no oil — ABSOLUTELY NOTHING).

The next step is to measure sugar.

To mix all the dry ingredient to a mixture.

Then add egg york, oil and sugar.

Someone is afraid to get her clothes dirty.  So she is wearing the apron.

And beat!!

Once the mixture gets to a consistent texture, you can stop.

The next step is a very important one.  To beat up the egg white.  This is the key that makes a cake a cake.  The softness and the fluffiness came from the egg white.

You should beat the egg white until creaming and form the stiffs.

Like this.

The next step is to gently fold the egg white into the other mixture.  Make sure you mix the two nicely.

And pour that into a container ready for oven.

You have to stir it a bit to eliminate the bubbles.

Stay tuned for the next update.
