Mimi’s Science Project — The Dangerous Atmosphere

Mimi came home with a project description two weeks ago from her science class.  The project was due on 2/7/12.  However, Mimi couldn’t work on the project during the 1st weekend due to the NY State Meet.  Of course, she had to work very hard to make up the lost time.

Mrs. Morton asks each student to do a small research on the city we live in (Tompkins County).  There were a few parameters she set for students to research.  They needed to tally all statistical data for the last 50 years on different extreme weather.  Then pick another city elsewhere for a comparison.

Mimi picked Maui County in Hawaii for her comparison.

She needed to spend quite some time on computer with all the statistical data on tornato, flood, etc.

At the same time, Mommy was working on her tax filing so all paperworks (hers and mommy’s) were all on the floor.

In addition to work on the number, the student is expected to research the pattern of different weather formation and come up with his/her conclusion.

It took Mimi whole day on Saturday on the content of the project. When the information was in place, this girl was so happy that she was jumping up and down!!

The final product!!

She was working on the final touch — marking the location of Tompkins and Maui County on the world map.

Not sure if I am biased, but I thought this is a pretty good poster for a 6th grader.  Information was presented clearly with her own research for conclusion.  Data was displayed in a visual format and is easy to understand.  Exhibit was to the point.

These were the raw data she took from her research.

Well job!!
