A different summer ahead
We just heard from her coaches that Mimi’s summer practice will be scheduled at evening. 
That means that we will have the whole summer to plan for activities. Jordan already told mommy that she didn’t want to go to the regular summer camp with younger children. She wanted to to try something different.
A few opportunities became available:
Science Center Counselor in Training Program — Mimi will need to go through a pretty serious application process. She needs to write up a personal statement to express her interests, to align her skill sets to the program needs, and to ask for a few letter of recommendations. If she passed the initial screening, she will be invited for an interview — JUST LIKE A REAL JOB!!
Ithaca College Summer Music Academy — Her band director strongly recommended Mimi to attend this program. This is a one-week residential camp (meaning that she will live on-site). This program is fairly expensive (more than $700 USD for a week). Luckily, there is a way to apply for scholarship, based on merit. Mimi will record her best clarinet solo to be submitted to the committee for their decision on scholarship. We will see how that goes.
Dance Camp — Mimi learned dance from a local dance studio several years ago. Because of her gymnastic schedule, she really couldn’t pursue her interests in dance. She specifically asked mommy to look for a dance camp this summer. I guess it will happen!!
Volunteer — Mommy thought it is a good opportunity for Mimi to start with some small community volunteer projects. When she asked around, a local teacher expressed her interests in working with Mimi in the summer. The tasks are somewhat defined (because of her age), including reorganizing and updating educational materials, filing and sorting unused materials and supplies, preparing items for donations, setting up clinical schedule for next semester, etc. The teacher already told mommy that if Mimi has additional skills to offer, she will be more than glad o expand her responsibilities.
In between, mommy will probably take a few weeks off here and there. Also, we are planning to have a family vacation to France at the beginning of the summer.
Hmmm….. This sounds like to be a fun summer for Mimi……
