Voting time
Last week was the Super Tuesday. Four years ago, it was Mommy’s first time to go into the election booth and cast my ballet. I brought Mimi with me then. She was eight and didn’t understand much.
Now this girl is 12 years old. She has learned American History and also the teacher talked to them about Presidential Election. I thought this will be a good opportunity to show Mimi how to exercise your civic right.
I picked up Mimi from school and took her directly to the election booth.
You were first introduced to the process on how to cast your vote. In this case, we are doing paper ballet.
You get to elect your president and your congressman at the same time. The name of the candidates are printed on the ballet. However, the bottom was left blank. This was left for those who want to write their own candidates’ name (whose name does not show up) into the ballet.
Mimi asked Mommy — Can you write my name to the presidential candidate box?
Well, my girl, I hope someday, your name will be printed on the ballet. Today, I will not write your name into the ballet because I don’t want to waste my vote…….
You will then verify your identity and collect your ballet. You will then enter the booth to cast your vote.
Once you complete your vote, it wlil be collected by the machine. The machine will automatically tabulate the counts and report at the end of the election.
When we finish, we receive a sticker to show that “We Voted”!
