BFF — Best Friends Forever

When we were young, we always like to look for the future.  “Forever” is not such a remote concept because at that time, we believe things should last for a long time.

As we grow up, we learned the hard lessons from life that taught us nothing will last forever.  You work hard to build your castle and arm yourself with family, friends, wealth, career, and health.  Nobody will say for sure that these things will last forever.  All we can do is to carefully nurture what we have and appreciate when we still have these…..

For Jordan, she is still the age when she believes in forever.  As her mother, this is something I work very hard to make sure she still is in the place of her life to believe in that.  However, some days, I know she will realize that nothing is forever…..  Until then, I will still carefully nurture my little rose in the garden.

Callie and Jordan have been great friends since they were 7 years old.  Both of them are in the gymnastic competition team.  They cheer for each other’s triumphant and they talk about how to make their skills better.  They also go to the same school this year.  When confronted by other children in the playground, these two will always choose to be each other’s strongest support.

Both Callie’s mother and I have been cuddling the friendship carefully.  Mimi is one of Callie’s frequent play dates and I also take Callie and Mimi to different outings.  This summer, Mimi was invited by Callie’s mother to a special trip to watch USGA gymastic meet at Philadelphia.  Her mother also had the back stage pass where the girls got to meet Olympics gold medalists (and got their autograph)!

A few weeks ago, Callie sustained a pretty serious foot injury from her floor exercise.  She had to be on crutches. All her practices are now put on hold and she could only do some conditioning on the side when others were practicing.

Mimi was very upset the day Callie was injured.  Having similar experience not long ago, she remember how hard it was for her to deal with that situation.  She said she wanted to do something for Callie.

A few days after the injury, the girls were supposed to go their first competition.  Her mother was going out of town so she couldn’t take Callie herself.  Instead, Callie was coming to our house for a sleep over so I could take both girls to the competition.

The night before the sleep over, Callie’s mother called and see if we should cancel that.  She said Callie will need more accommondation and it probably will be a lot for us to have her over for a sleep over.  I asked Mimi what we shoud do.  Mimi told me firmly that “I will want to have Callie over for a sleep over.  She will be very disappointed if we cancel that.”

Mimi made a card for Callie.  She told me she wanted to do something special for Callie to cheer her up.  She didn’t have time to get some of the things she wanted so she asked if I can help her.

Callie still came to the Friday practice.  She finished her one-hour conditioning and waited for Mimi to finish her practice.  After that, I took these two hungry girls out for a quick bite to eat.

These two got yelled at a lot at the practice because they “talk too much” to each other….

I guess they can’t talk now.  Kind of busy, right?

After dinner, we found that there was a cake on the next table.  The girls went to see what was going on.  The found………

It was from the “secret Santa”!

Let’s look at Mimi’s special trick — her enlarged nostril.

Mimi also asked the secret Santa to get Callie a “friendship necklace”.  It comes in a pair where one person will have the half with “best” and the other will come with the half with “friend”.

Mimi also made a card for Callie:

On Saturday morning, these two snuggled on the sofa watching the TV.  They know how to make themselves comfortable.

Callie, hope you get better soon. Your best friend is waiting for you.

For Jordan:  It is lucky to be your best friend.  You are such a great pal!!
