A Burrito

Last night, I brought Mimi a yummy burrito from Wegman.  The burrito was filled with rice, shredded beef, sweet corns, sour cream and it was beautifully wrapped in foil and was placed in a container with chips and salsa.

When I picked up Mimi and Callie, I heard the conversation took place in the back seat:

“What are you having for dinner?” asked Callie.

“”My mommy got me a burrito from Wegman.”, said Mimi.

“Can I have a piece, please?”, asked Callie.

I didn’t hear anything from Mimi at the beginning.  I was going to say something but I decided not to.

“Can I at least see how it was like?”, asked Callie.

Mimi handed over the Burrito.  Then Callie asked, “Can I have a piece?”

Finally, Mimi said, “Alright…..”

The two hungry girls had one snip over another on the way.  Soon, we arrived at Callie’s house.

After Callie went home, Mimi was sitting quietly in the backseat.

“Are you upset about something?”, I asked.

“………………………….”, Mimi didn’t say anything.

Finally, she told me that she didn’t like her burrito any more.  It was all fallen into pieces and can’t be enjoyed the same way it was supposed to be.

I asked if she wanted to share her burrito with Callie in the first place?  Mimi said:

“No, but I don’t want to hurt her feeling.”

“You still have chips you can share with her.  She will get something and you will keep your burrito, right?”, said Mommy.

I hope Mimi learned a lesson last night.  When needed, you have to stand up for yourself.  I see this happen so many times.  Mimi has a hard time to say NO to a friend.  She doesn’t want to hurt her friend’s feeling.  However, it ended up at the expense to herself.  She doesn’t have to be mean to others but just to be firm with what she wants.

Let’s start with the next burrito……..
