Never Give Up

There is an old saying “Like father, like son”.  I am not sure how true that statement is but I have my own interpretation to it.

Every one of us is an independent individual.  However, I think somehow our character and dispositions are shaped in one form or another by elements outside of our control — DNA or our upbringing….

I think Mimi is a far superior being than daddy or I.  But one similarity I do see between me and her is that we do not give up easily.

Last Friday night after gymnastic practice, I took Mimi and Callie to a University hosted event.  At the end of the semester, there are quite a few choices for us to go to.

The girls enjoyed the free food, games and entertainment.  But something got their attention — there is a Horse Standing Contest.

Mimi was immediately drawn to that.  She attended a horse standing contest last year and won easily the first place.  (Personally, I don’t think it is a fair competition.  How can a 20 years old body win such a competition from a 9 or 10 years old who has all the energy and softer bone structure….)  When she heard the first place will get $15.00 Best Buy gift certificate, SHE WAS THERE!!

Of course, Callie will like to join the game so we have to contestants from Fingerlakes Gymnastic.

The host first introduced all contestants.

Then they all lined up and listened to the instruction.

These two were there to get the prize.

Ready, start and GO!!

At the beginning, it seemed like a piece of cake for everyone….

As the time passed, people dropping out one at a time…..

Another one gone…

Finally, there were only three left — two of our girls and another sophomore.

Callie was about to be disqualified for her position.  You will need to kneel all the way down (like Mimi) to stay in this contest.

None of them is giving up.

But apparently, someone is shaking (very much)…..

Again, the host was giving Callie her second warning of her position.

Sadly, Callie was out.

These two were now meeting their own match!!

While Mimi seemed to be at ease, the other girl was pretty shaky.  She had to hold her leg with her arms to support herself, a pretty tough position to maintain.

None of them were giving up and it appeared that the other girl was about to get injured.  Finally, the host declared that both of them won the first place.

These two girls held their horse stand for 14 minutes and 31 seconds!!  What an accomplishment!!  Great Job Mimi.

After the contest, these girls were checking around the booth for snacks and drink.  Mimi even tried the plum juice (and didn’t like it).

Finally, she went to put down her information to claim her price.  I think they are going to split the gift card in half to share between these two.  Mimi was disappointed but felt better when she knew mommy will match the remaining amount to make it a full prize for her.

Both of them left their contact information.

These girls were enjoying the entertainment and traditional Chinese snacks.

Also, they played a few rounds of ping-pong.

We stayed close to 10pm before we march back home.  Hope these two enjoyed the evening.  Mommy was certainly tired….
