Mimi’s School Project — Landform

One of the major subject of science that Mimi studied in spring semester was landform.  One day, Mrs. Patterson sent an email to all parents asking for donation of salt and flour and tangerine boxes.  What she was planning to do is to lead children to build different landform.  This project requires the understanding of different landform, good hand coordination and the master skill to manipulate pasty materials.

Apparently, they made it.   According to Mrs. Patterson, it was quite a “messy” project.  Children were asked to wear clothes that they can get dirty with.

Here is what Mimi made.  She had 6 different types of landforms she designed in her project.  Each one is marked by the little blue flag.

This is the lake.  A lake is a body of relatively still fresh or salt water of considerable size, localized in a basin, that is surrounded by land.  Most lakes are not a part of the ocean.

This is a peninsula.  Peninsula is an area of land almost completely surrounded by water except for the part connecting it with the mainland (did you see the connection to the mainland)?

This is a Fjord.  A fjord is a long, narrow inlet with steep sides or cliffs, usually created in a valley carved by glacial activity.  We have quite a few of these here in Ithaca.

Finally, this is a mountain.  Hopefully, everyone knows what a mountain is.
