Needs, Wants, and Management

By Jordan Lu

Everybody has needs and wants, some people have more wants than needs, and some people have less. But it is important to manage your time and money wisely too, so you can afford your needs and wants.

What is a need? A need is something that you could not survive without. For instance if you did not have water, food, or some form of shelter, you would not be able to survive, because A. you would die of thirst, B. you would die of hunger, C. you would die of the weather, considering it was too hot or cold.

What is a want? A want is something that would be nice to have, but you do not need it to survive with. Let’s say you want some really cool cards. You do not need cards to survive with, so that would be a want.

How do you manage time? People have numerous ways of organizing their time, but an easy way is by using a schedule. The first thing you should do when you plan your day, is to put down the things you have to do, like chores or homework, you should write down approximately when you start, and end. Then you can put the things that you do not nessecerely have to do like playing video games or watching T.V. After you have made your schedule, try to follow it and you might find yourself with extra time to spare.

Those who are rich probably are not rich because they have a million dollars coming in a month, its most likely because they manage there money well. A useful way to manage your money is by prioritizing. Prioritizing means to order things by there importance. For example, say you were at the grocery store, getting vegetables, when you come across a candy bar with a hundred calories and are very expensive, but you buy them anyway end up spending way more than you anticipated. 1st of all, the candy probably was not the best thing for you, and 2nd, your wasting your money on something you did not come to the store to get. Once or twice its okay, but once it becomes a habit, you are in trouble because you have been wasting your money on a regular basis.

By doing this activity, I have learned that I have a lot more wants than needs, and that I have not been using the most efficient way of managing my time and money.

Hmmm…  I need to work with her a bit about her grammar…..
