Letchworth State Park
Remember last month that Mimi was working on a landform project? Mimi put lots of efforts into that project and received an “A+” for her grade.
We decided to take Mimi to visit the “Grand Canyon” of the east coast on Columbus weekend. We hope to bring her to see the real canyon again — rather than browsing from the web site.
The place we visit is called Letchworth State Park.
It was a beautiful Sunday. It was unusually warm and beautiful. We invited Ania to join us because I know Mimi will enjoy her company very much.
Since we had a late start, we decided to go to Taco Bell for lunch before hitting the road. For some reasons, Mimi really likes Mexican food such as taco, burrito or quesadilla. I guess we are in the right place.
Apparently, these two brought good appetite with them. They finished their meal and ordered the second round.
And keep diving in…………
Finally, we are ready to hit the road.
Jordan and Ania were setting up the TV in the back seat to enjoy the movie of their choice. It will be a two-hour car ride so these two definately need something to kill their time.
Finally, we arrived our destiny. It took daddy a whlie to look for direction. I guess it’s time for a new GPS. Ania was really nice to Mimi. She always waits for her because Mimi doesn’t move as fast as she used to be with her walker.
I guess this was one of the landmark of the park. You can see more beautiful photos from http://nyfalls.com/letchworth-main.html
These two are like Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. They can really go wild. They decided to throw rocks into the fall and see if they can make a splash from there.
You can always be creative if you want to. These two started exploring around for big rocks.
I especially enjoy the ray of sunshine on them. It’s great to be able to enjoy the good weather this time of the year. The forecast showed that this was the last good weekend before next May……………
And someone decided to carve their name and leave a mark. If they leave the cell phone number, I think the park ranger can call Fumi and I to arrange a plan to pay for penalty fine.
I guess this is what is called “free play”. They decide what they want to do and when they want to do something.
See someone’s name there?

Photo taken by Ania.
Good friend forever, ok?
Ania always likes to pat dogs when she sees any. Jordan likes animal but she is very particular with the kind she wants. For Ania, she couldn’t resist any little four-leg friends who come to her way……
The two decided to go closer to the river bank. They need to crawl down through bushes. Of course, it was a challenge for Jordan with her limited mobility.
Luckily, she has a great friend who helped her.
through good time….
and bad time……….
Thanks, Ania.
When they got closer to the river bank, Mommy suddenly spotted something………
Yes, it’s a snake. Beacuse of that, these two decided to leave the scene AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
And to the playground.
Isn’t this a great photo for display? Don’t get to see them this way often. Mommy is running the risks of being kicked by the two when taking the shots.
The two were studying the history of the state park. Apparently, the land was donated to the state by someone who was famous and rich in the area almost a century ago.
For those who are interested, you can read it on your own.
Do you see the beautiful rainbow?
The girls found a hole. They decided to see how deep the hole is and whether or not any living creature can be found there. How do they pursue their adventure?
They started throwing things into the hole — and nothing happened. They then start looking for sticks, long sticks to see if they can push it in. Apparently, the hole wasn’t as deep as they thought.
So they went back to what they did before — keep throwing sticks back to the fall.
And see them floating away………..
We have two super models here.
Ania’s take one.
Take two.
And finally, take three.
I think this is the dog that Mimi really likes — the golden retriever.
Not sure how Ania did it to make the photo crooked.
The girls spotted turkey vulture flying low. They wanted to get a closer look.
As we tour around the park, we decided to get into the water before it’s too late and too cold. There was a beautiful little creek by the road.
You can see someone is fearless.
And someone is just “testing the water”……
Someone found a little crab living in the water.
Ania believed that she found gold. And Mimi is still digging (and found nothing).
At the end, we went to our usual place, Oliver Garden, for a good meal. We were all tired and starving. Apparently, not the girls. They were still energetic, especially after a good meal.
We stop by at Purity Ice Cream when we returned to Ithaca. WE had a great day with Ania.
