Our Turkey Dinner — Our Iron Chef, Daddy
Someone has been bragging about making delicious turkey for Thanksgiving. Of course, you can’t just offer lip service. We made sure that he put his actions to work.
Since we only have three people in the family, we shopped for the smallest turkey we could find. Still, this 14 pounds baby looks quite huge for our appetite.
It took us a while to defrost the turkey. We didn’t put it out until the morning of Thanksgiving. Luckily, we laid it by the window to enjoy the last sun bath before being put into the oven.
Our iron chef download a fairly sophisticated recipe to make his three courses meal — apple flavor roasted turkey, mashed potato and green bean.
After our lunch at Cornell, we went for shopping to get some ingredients for our dinner, mostly spices. These aren’t things that we usually use in our cooking. But, hey, it’s Thanksgiving. It has to be special, right?
The iron chef called for his little helper.

Instead of using the traditional stuffing, he used cut appled and celery cubes to add up additional flavor.
Along with the spices — all stuffed into the turkey’s tummy.
The duo working diligiently for the special dinner.
Of course, we need to tie up the legs before putting into the oven. Eventually, you have to be lady-like, right? Splitting your legs wide open is not going to be very presentable, even for a turkey.
Mimi was helping to melt the butter.
Because daddy was brushing it all over the turkey before the bake.
Now the turkey is made, the iron chef started working on his green bean.

Here comes the mashed potato.
The turkey looks pretty juicy. However, it’s not totally done yet.
Daddy is giving the 2nd coat of butter.
Here is the final product. A little burnt but it didn’t impact the flavor. Still tastes pretty good.
Here is our simple, yet delicious dinner.
Usually, it’s the head of the house taking up the honor to cut the turkey in the family. I guess in our case, it’s daddy.
Mimi can’t wait to enjoy the legs. She said it reminded her the good memory from California. She had quite a few turkey legs from Disneyland in the summer.

We can’t finish all of these. Therefore, daddy is cutting up the meat for the next meal.
