Mimi Making Cake — Part II (Decorations)

Mimi finished the first part of her baking project on Thursday after Thanksgiving dinner.  Friday, we went to Syracuse for our shopping trip.  When we returned, she was asking for the Part II of her baking project.

The cake turned out to be a big success.  The color and texture all looked pretty good.  What’s left is to make the whipped cream and decorate the cake with fruit.

We first cut the cake in half.  We will fill the middle with whipped cream.

Mommy used half and half to beat the whipped cream.  Big mistake.

Poor Mimi…..  She kept mixing…..

and mixing…..

and it didn’t come out right.  Becuase mommy bought the wrong kind of cream.  So she went quickly to the supermarket for the heavy cream.

And it worked.

You need to act quickly when working with whipped cream.  It works the best in cooler temperature.

Mimi is getting familiar with different tools in baking.

The hardest part is to get the exterior coating of whipped cream.  That requires a pretty good fine motor skill.  Of course, Mommy needs to help her with that.

The rest was all Mimi’s idea.  She was in charge of the design and decoration of the cake.  As a matter of fact, this is the birthday cake we wanted to make for daddy.

This was her design #1.

But it didn’t seem working.

So here comes design #2.

Mommy suggested that she started from the middle and worked towards the edge.

Doesn’t it look good?

Her next task was to get the flower decorations on the cake.  This is the most interesting part for most people.

You will have to fill the cream bag for the decoration.  Again, this is the step you have to work fast.  Your body temperature (especially hands) will quickly melt the whipped cream.

it didn’t take much practice for Mimi to be good with that.

Doesn’t it look like a professional job?

Someone has been sampling as she worked……

This looks so beautiful.

The finished work was put into a cake container and presented to the birthday boy.  Stay tuned.
