Mimi’s First School Detention
Tuesday afternoon when mommy got home, Mimi was crawling up on the sofa. Mommy asked her what was going on. Mimi slowly said to mommy “I got into trouble today!”
What? Mimi is in trouble at school? Well, This is new to me. Let’s hear what happened.
Mimi said that in the social study class, some boys were singing and asked their audience “If you are happy, clap your hands”. And she did. That’s how she got into trouble.
Is that all the story? Of course not.
Mommy asked: “Was singing a part of the class?” — “No.” said Mimi.
“Was the teacher or some grown ups there who observed this?” asked Mommy.
“Not at the beginning.” Said Mimi. — Hmmm, this is interesting.
After mommy asked more questions, she was trying to place pieces of puzzles together as followed:
A substitute teacher was coming to Social Study class that morning. There was a mix-up in the schedule so that the teacher didn’t arrive the classroom until later. Meanwhile, this group of children started getting excited with the “extra time” they have on hand. Some boys started singing loud, and ask their audience to “clap” along. Many children did and they all had a great time. It got to the point that they were so loud and attracted the assistant principal’s attention. He (Mr. Baker) came and “broke” the party.
Mr. Baker asked who started this riot. The boys came up. Mr. Baker then asked who participated the crowd. Even though most of the children participated, only two came forward — one of those was Mimi.
I have to say that I admire Mimi’s courage and honesty to come forward (but will appreciate more if she exercises her wisdom BEFORE participating these activities). She then also apologized to the teachers and admitted her wrong doing.
She was asked to write up a “sorry letter”. Before going to bed, she completed one.
Mommy hopes this is your first and the last lunch detention.
PS1: Mimi came home the next day very excited to tell mommy “There were so many kids in the lunch detentions. They have to put us into a special room so we can eat lunch.” I guess it’s tough to manage the 6th grader this year. Lunch detention is meant for the out-laws. It seems that there are quite a few of them in the 6th grade at school.
PS2: Mommy talked to Mr. Baker afterward. He said that Mimi is usually a role model and he was surprised that she got involved in this incident. But he said that Mimi was very honest about what happened. She also accepted her counsequences and apologized sincerely to the grown ups.
