Hand Craft Artist?

Mimi went to Primitive Pursuit camp this week.  She spent the whole week in the wood exploring wild life and used materials gathered from the nature to make a project.

What Mimi wants to make is a spoon.  She picked a stick from the nature and wanted to cut that into the shape of the spoon.  Because she did not have much time working on her project during the camp, she brought it home trying to catch up.

Since most of our tools were still in boxes,  she was using the cutting knief mommy uses for cooking.

Mimi worked on cutting the spoon on the kitchen counter.

Mimi is trying to cut off the top part.  We do not have the tool that can do this job effectively.  All Mimi can do is to use my kitchen knief to slowly cut through the top portion.  Below that, you will see a light pencil mark.  That was supposed to be the shape of the spoon.  Mimi will use sand paper to sand off the rough edges to make it into a spoon.

The dark portion was the burn mark.  In Primitive Pursuit, they used charcoal to burn off the wood to make it into a bowl or container.  Mimi was trying to use the same method to create the shallow part of the spoon.  She needed more  charcoal to create her deep end but had no chance to do that yet.

Mimi was working on that quite a bit this week.  Finally, she was able to cut off the top portion.  Does it look more like a spoon now?
